The Troubles
The Troubles are an Irish band with musical roots in rock, traditional Irish, bluegrass, and blues. Their name, taken from the famous conflicts that occurred in Northern Ireland during the 60's, 70's, and 80's, was inspired by the band's Irish roots as well as the Coal Region heritage. The Anthracite Coal Region of Pennsylvania is rich with Irish tradition and history. The band blends these two influences into its original, traditional,and contemporary Irish music.
WIGGANS
This Schuylkill County historical site focuses on the O'Donnell House Massacre which occurred on December 10th, 1875 in the small village of Wiggans Patch, outside Mahanoy City, Pennsylvania. Sometimes the pages of history are one sided. This is a page in the infamous Mollie Maguire saga that must be read.
The Coal Region
Located in NE Pennsylvania, Schuylkill, Carbon, Luzerne, Lackawanna, Columbia, and Northumberland make up the counties known as the Coal Region. The inhabitants are known as Coal Crackers. Clover Irish Weekend Festival
The Clover Irish Weekend Festival located in picturesque Irish Valley, "County Schuylkill", Pennsylvania is a celebration of ethnic culture featuring all the music, foods, crafts, games, history, and traditions found at an Irish village festival. Dates for the 22nd annual festival are July 24, 25, and 26, 2009.
Girardville
Visit the site of the tiny coal region town of Girardville. It may be small in size but it is famous for its pizza, burgers, St. Patrick's Day Parade, and perhaps its most famous resident, Black Jack Kehoe, alleged King of the Mollie Maguires.
