Board Games > Go

For websites dedicated to exploring Go, an ancient abstract strategy board game of the Orient. The equipment consists of a board (usually made naturally finished wood) with black lines vertically and horizontally, 19 in each direction. The playing pieces are called "stones" and the best sets have stones made of slate and shell. They are black and white respectively. Play consists of placing stones on the intersections of the black lines. The purpose of play is to surround territory and capture the other person's stones. This is both the most simple and the most complex game in the world, which takes a lifetime to master. It is popular primarily in Asia and the United States. Photo by Brian Jeffery Beggerly.
