The final New York Sires Stakes of the season highlighted the Sunday's card at Buffalo Raceway and it was like watching instant replay as the combination of driver Jim Morrill Jr. and trainer Linda Toscano teammed to win both both $66,993 divisions of the New York Sire Stakes. Morrill Jr. sweeps Sire Stakes Sunday In the opener, Swift As A Shadow ($13.00) used a late and went past the breaking heavy favorite Captive Audience in 1:53.4. Thirty Two Red (Ray Schnittker) finished second while the 1-9 favorite Captive Audience was third. A few races later, Doctor Butch made a house call at Buffalo and went gate-to-wire for Morrill Jr. and Toscano to score an impressive win over Ronny Bugatti in 1:53.4. Doctor Butch ($4.50) paced the final quarter in an eye-popping 27.1.  Looking back earlier in the week, in the third race at Buffalo Raceway, Friday night, a New York Sire Stake race worth $57,443, an accident involving four horses and drivers, sent drivers Jack Flanigen, and Ray Fisher, Jr., to the hospital after a bad spill at the top of the stretch. My American Tallia had the lead with driver Andrew McCarthy in the bike. The horse broke stride, and the two-year-old filly swerved sideways in to Sweetnsinful and reinsman Jimmy Whittemore. My American Tallia then fell to the ground causing a chain reaction involving Flanigen and Fisher.
